5.5.2021

(Suomeksi alla)

Moniheli participated at  World Village Festival 2021 on 29-30.05. This year the festival was conducted virtually and we collaborated with some of our member associations on a live programme. The Our Diverse Finland programme featured talks and performances that demonstrated the vitality of our network of over 110 member associations.

The program included talks on planetary health and local community engagement; a journey into the past through Kalevala reinterpretations and into the future, or Afrofuture, through dance, and much more.

Moniheli osallistui ensimmäiseen virtuaaliseen World Village Festivaliin

Moniheli osallistui World Village Festivaliin 2021 29-30.5.

Women of Kalevala

This performance by dancer Gayathri Menon, would be based on the theme "Women of Kalevala". The art world has always been interested in the Finnish National Epic Kalevala. The tales have captivated the imaginations of visual and theatre artists, and they have interpreted the imaginary world of Kalevala in diverse ways.

The art world has largely focused in retelling the mesmerising stories of the heroes of Kalevala. However, the voices of women in Kalevala often remain unheard. With this performance Gayathri tries to portray the emotions and stories of few female characters in Kalevala through Indian classical dance.
